USAID Provides Improved Agricultural Practices To Help Tanzania Farmers

Implementation of time specific programs such as the Feed The Future Initiative, and Tanzania Agriculture Productivity Program (TAPP), supported by the United States Agency for International development (USAID) are improving the rural population in a sustainable, and effective way.

Agricultural practices of farmers are often unproductive, and are unable to grow enough food to feed their families. Those farmers with excess produce have a limited market so that they cannot make an income.

USAID are working to help small holders overcome these short-comings by training farmers with better agricultural techniques that help them expand production of their crop. Programs such as TAPP, hold trainings, providing education, and help farmers expand their market.

In an attempt to help local Tanzanian farmers reach a better market, USAID have encouraged connections between outside companies, such as General Mills, and local organizations like Nyirefami Food Processing so that the cost of production is not only reduced, but beneficial for local farmers.

These small growers are increasing their profit because of improved agricultural practices and partnerships, which allow them to reach international markets. Companies such as HomeVeg have experienced success which has allowed them to provide quality produce at a competitive rate.

An availability of education, access to partnerships and outside markets have provided a sustainable way to help local farmers in Tanzania to improve their lives in a dramatic, and valuable way.
